Language

Language
Language is a huge umbrella term.  It is the understanding of what is communicated to us and the ability to communicate messages as well.   Language is usually thought of to be broken into receptive skills (what we understand) and expressive skills (what we can convey to others.)  We can further break language into the components of syntax and morphology (grammar,) semantics (vocabulary,) and pragmatics (social language skills.)  Can't follow basic directions?  See the speech pathologist.  Can't put words into grammatically correct sentences? Yep we help with that too.  Don't recognize others' emotions or know how to carry on a conversation?  You've got it.  Speech/language pathologists not only have ways of making you talk, but have ways of making you talk well, talk in complete sentences, and talk with peers.
