Good Voice Behaviors

Bad for My Voice?
You probably know that excessive yelling and singing are bad for your voice, but did you know that whispering is equally offensive, even if you're in the library?

So what are you supposed to do?  Well,  if you aren't supposed to be talking in a particular environment, it's best to just be quiet:

Do You Have a Future Impersonator?
Some kids love to imitate cartoon characters, friends, motor sounds, and even relatives.  Well some people can do this and never damage their vocal cords, but most of us need to be more judicious with the use of our voices.  I always tell the kids that they should only use their own voices, no impressions necessary!

Don't be a turkey; use your won voice, no gobbling,
baaing, or barking either!

The Dreaded Glottal Fry
The glottal fry happens when the vocal cords vibrate very slowly at the lowest register.
I often compare the glottal fry to a toy machine gun.  That's the best way I can describe it, but take a listen to me in this video if you want to hear it for yourself.

Water, My Beverage of Choice
You've heard it before, what's the best drink for your body?  Water, of course.  And when it comes to your vocal cords, stick to refreshing H20.  I love my coffee too, but caffeine, carbonation, and acids from citrus juices just don't cut it when it comes to keeping our voices healthy.  When in doubt, choose water, and your vocal cords will thank you.
