Athletic Hall of Fame

Athletic Hall of Fame

Congratulations to the following individuals and team on their induction into the
inaugural class of the Beaver Area Athletic Hall of Fame!

The purpose of the Beaver Area Athletic Hall of Fame is to recognize and honor those Beaver Area athletes, coaches, teams, administrators, and contributors who excelled in their respective sports or coaching/support roles and who helped to bring honor, recognition, distinction and excellence to Beaver Area by their conduct both on and off the field, or court, of competition.  This recognition will help maintain the spirit, pride and sense of community as well as serving as a historical account of the great athletic traditions of Beaver Area.

All individuals selected to receive this honor will receive special recognition during a hall of fame ceremony in which their name(s), graduation date(s) and sport(s) they participated in throughout their career will be highlighted.

All teams selected to receive this honor will receive special recognition during a hall of fame ceremony in which all members of the team (athletes, coaches, and support staff) will be recognized.

Candidates are eligible five (5) years after their class’s graduation.  They must be in good standing or in special circumstances as determined by the Hall of Fame Committee. Such candidates  must have competed in a Beaver Area-sanctioned varsity sport and must have excelled in such sport. Among the accomplishments taken into account will be individual  (All-District, All-State, & All-American) and team accomplishments, individual school or team records held, and impact on teams and the overall athletic program at Beaver Area during their era and accomplishments thereafter (ie. intercollegiate, professional, and olympic teams).

Nomination is also open to coaches and administrators, who must have participated with distinction and/or made significant contributions to athletics at Beaver Area, as evidenced, for example, by the success of their teams and the acknowledgment of their former student-athletes.  Such coaches or administrators shall be eligible for nomination beginning five years after they have left Beaver Area for any reason, or in special circumstances as determined by the Committee.

Nomination is also open to Beaver Area-sanctioned varsity athletic teams. Teams will have distinguished themselves with accomplishments above and beyond the normal standards such as undefeated seasons, conference/league championships, district championships, state championships, and/or national recognition. Such teams shall be eligible for nomination beginning five years after their accomplishment(s), or in special circumstances as determined by the Committee.

As determined by the Committee, Contributors will also be considered for nomination based upon their service and dedication to the athletic programs of Beaver Area.

A candidate may be nominated for Hall of Fame membership by any member of the community.  Formal nomination shall be made using the nomination form prescribed for such purpose and made available to the public.  The nomination form must be received by the athletic department by March 1st.  All nominations are to remain confidential, to be shared among the members of the Committee only.  Information relating to a nominee's career statistics, records, achievements, etc. must be supported by accompanying documentation or sources cited so that the information may be verified independently.  The  nomination form will be available through the athletic department and on the school district’s website. The Hall of Fame committee will review all nominations and provide their recommendations for induction to the Beaver Area School Board’s Athletic Committee. The Athletic Committee will review all recommendations and if approved, will provide them to the Beaver Area School Board for final approval in April.

Once presented as an eligible nominee, a candidate who is not elected shall automatically be reconsidered annually until he/she has been considered for five years.  Thereafter, re-nomination may occur at any time. The Committee Chairman will notify any nominator and their nominee in writing if not selected.

Hall of Fame inductees will be honored during the homecoming football game.

Hall of Fame honorees will receive a gift designated by the Committee.

The Committee Members shall be comprised of people from the following list:

  • The Beaver Area School Board’s Athletic Committee Chairperson

  • The Beaver Area School District Athletic Director

  • Beaver Area High School School Principal

  • Current Beaver Area High School athletic coaches (1 male and 1 female coach will be selected)

  • Retired or former BASD athletic personnel

All Committee Members shall be appointed by the BASD Athletic Committee, Athletic Director and Principal, and shall serve for a two year term initially.  All Committee members are provided one vote with the exception of the athletic director who is a non-voting member.

All members may be re-appointed for 2 year terms by the BASD Athletic Committee, Athletic Director, and Principal at the conclusion of their initial term.

A committee chairman will be appointed by a majority vote by committee members and shall serve a three year term initially.

The Committee will meet during the following months with additional work carried out via postal/electronic mail:

  • January: Discuss new committee members to be added for the next meeting, review nomination criteria, assess previous induction events and make recommendations for change

  • March: Review nominations, discuss any historical research on those not nominated, and finalize inductees into the hall of fame

  • April: Finalize induction ceremony plans, announce selection of inductees, and send information to inductees

*Additional meetings as needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the Hall of Fame Committee

The Hall of Fame Committee Members shall meet at a time and place as determined by the Chairman in order to nominate, review, and elect candidates.  The quorum for any meeting at which election of candidates shall take place shall be a majority of members.  Background information on each nominee should be distributed to Committee Members prior to the meeting and members should familiarize themselves with the nominees prior to voting.  Each Committee Member shall have one vote and all votes shall carry equal weight.  Candidates shall be discussed in alphabetical or chronological order as designated by the Chairman.

The outcome of the verbal vote will be shared with the Committee Members only.  If, in the opinion of the Committee Members (as evidenced by failure to obtain a majority vote), no candidate nominated in a particular year is worthy of election to the Hall, so be it; it is not necessary to induct new members each year.  At the same time, there shall be no limit on the number of members who may gain admission in a given year.
