Senior Accountant
(ACT 93: “Special Service Support” Position)
 
The Beaver Area School District seeks a dedicated, experienced Senior Accountant to join our team.
This role involves overseeing accounting functions, including financial reporting, account reconciliation, journal entry preparation, and maintaining the general ledger. The Senior Accountant will also support audit activities, budget preparation, and be responsible for preparing and reporting internal and external financial information, including all federal, state, local, and PDE reporting requirements. 
 
Key Responsibilities: 
 
  • Manage day-to-day accounting tasks for the Beaver Area School District, ensuring smooth operations.
  • Produce precise and punctual monthly financial reports for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Aid in month-end closing by reconciling accounts and preparing journal entries.
  • Support the Director of Financial Services in various tasks including journal entries, budget management, annual audits, grant management, and monthly balance sheet reconciliation.
  • Maintain the accuracy of the general ledger and promptly address any discrepancies.
  • Oversee grant management to ensure adherence to funding guidelines.
  • Assist the Director of Business Services in budget oversight and financial planning.
  • Analyze monthly financial reports and budgets to deliver accurate insights.
  • Handle preparation and reporting, covering all federal, state, local, and PDE requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal financial regulations governing school district finances.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to develop and monitor budgets, with a focus on expenditure control.
  • Provide assistance during audit processes to uphold accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Support various administrative tasks within the Business Office as required.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned by the Director of Business Services and/or the Superintendent.
Education and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field is required; CPA or advanced degree, preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in accounting or related field is desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, regulations, and best practices.
Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in financial management software and Microsoft Excel is required.
  • Ability to create complex financial models and perform data analysis is required.
Interpersonal Skills:
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and integrity.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with stakeholders while maintaining confidentiality.
